The future is Green!
Whether or not the SA economy is being driven into the Green Sector as a result of mainstream acceptance of the theory of man-made greenhouse gases causing environmental destruction, or finally by the understanding of the fact that there are too many of us consuming too many resources too fast, the reality is that the Green Economy is now in play!
If you are committed to personal growth in 2012, and believe that you can make a positive difference to society, business and to our most precious yet abused resource, EARTH, then you will need a selection of advance thinking, backed by tools and solutions to help you get there.
By simply understanding the balanced systems approach - knowing that Earth, Climate and Mother Nature all work in an equilibrium, and that a small part can affect the whole, is an important starting point. No longer can we afford to live with the short term (ignorance) mentality of "I am okay, so everything is okay", instead we need to understand, accept and practice the 3BL approach (Triple Bottom Line) especially when it comes to people.
Better still, when you understand and apply William McDonough © 2002 approach of: "How do we love all the children, of all species, for all time" you will begin to see just how vital the systems approach is. This is not just about humans on the planet but instead about co-existence of all creatures on the planet. Many of the world's oceans are already over-exploited some more than 80%, so how will this affect the whole food chain? How will this effect industry, jobs, security and eventually us? We can no longer ignore these issues and for this reason more and more green ambassadors trained in green ideologies are needed as urgent catalysts of change.
In the Systems approach, the demise of one species will impact the existence of another.
Do you see yourself as wanting to help people and businesses who are struggling to find a sustainable balance, improved ethics, compassion, meaning or well-being in their lives? Do you want to make a good living and also do work that you are passionate about, and a career that makes a positive contribution to the world at large?
The world is changing at an alarming rate. In 2011 the world changed in so many ways from the floors of the stock exchanges, banking, economic, social, political and not to mention the technological changes. What opportunities and threats have these changes brought about? How do these translate into Green?
Many of us, organisations and institutions are stuck in the old ways of thinking & doing business and therefore by you training as a Certified Green Consultant / Coach / Mentor / Change Agent, you will become a vital conduit who can bring about real change, sustainable change, to any organisation.
So if you are seeking an extremely rewarding, yet challenging career in sustainability, you have passion for the environment and firmly believe that you are a good steward of the earth and aren't afraid to demonstrate it, then 2012 is the time to make the change.
Your next steps are: to get educated, get informed and get connected to a significant Green Network who is passionate about Greening South Africa, who have the tools and systems to do so. For more info Please visit

We are now hearing of Green officers, environmental officers, and sustainability officers. What are they, and how does one become one? While there is no Webster dictionary definition of these terms, we will attempt to provide some clarity to these roles.
The Green officer is generally an appointed role of an employee or staff member in the company. There is no inference of training or capability to do the job assigned although there may be ample good will and willingness to learn. The Sustainability Officer, however, is a person who has been trained and developed to fulfill the duties of development and deployment of the company's sustainability plan. The Sustainability officer is also called: Certified Sustainability Officer, Corporate Sustainability Officer, or Chief Sustainability Officer. Many abbreviate the concept to a simple title as CSO.
The CSO training can be from a four year college program, or by a more narrowly-developed online training program. It does make sense that a Green or sustainability officer would opt to take the course online to reduce the sheer impact of the learning experience.
More recently, the larger and more progressive corporations have been actively hiring and installing sustainability officers because they seem to have a better vision of what is coming to businesses nationally and internationally. Few can doubt that in the next five years that nearly every business will be pressed to Go Green or lose public esteem and important contracts. The first and obvious step is to install someone within the company to advocate and promote the Green program.
With the appointment of a Green officer the next step should be to acquire training as a sustainability officer in the company.Companies looking to prepare for what is certainly coming should heed the sound advice now viewed as acceptible practice. Appoint a Green officer and put them through the Certified Sustainability Officer training.
The good news is that the cost of such decision is minimal. The Green officer is already on the payroll, and training is not a big expense. Compared to hiring an outside consulting firm to take your company Green, the CSO program is sheer genius and very effective.

So it's that time again for those New Year’s resolutions to be made. More often than not, those which have the greatest intentions, just never seem to materialise. The reasons for this are often multi-fold and also are easily justifiable. i.e. Possibly the resolution had too many steps involved, or needed a large sum of money to mobilise it, or just maybe the resolution simply required a mentor to steer you in the right direction. Whilst the above maybe true for New Year’s resolutions, many entrepreneurs starting out in business run up against these obstacles as well.
So have you ever thought of launching your own Green Consultancy but just didn’t know where to start and perhaps were just overwhelmed at the vastness of Green. Well without guidance, the green marketplace is really a myriad of ideas, loop-holes, as well as a wide range of solutions ranging from bogus to 100% genuine. It is really easy to “spin your wheels” in the green business, as eventualy inertia sets in from being overwhelmed with the sheer size and scope of Green.

In 2005 the Green Business League (GBL), developed a Green Certification program focused on Green Practices, and has always stood testament to the philosophy that Certification is to be “Earned & not Bought”. Unlike many certifications today, where a simple online commitment can present you with the opportunity to purchase your green certification immediately, the Green Business League follows the authentic route to Green Certification. The gReen Business LEague is represented in South Africa by Green Path Inc.
Firstly an assessment by a Certified Green Consultant™ (CGC) identifies any green initiatives the organisations already has in place, confirms that the pre-requisites of The Green Path program can be met and a list of suggested practices is developed. These practices are prioritised from no-cost, low-cost and capital intensive options.
Thereafter the Certified Green Consultant develops a sustainability Charter within a well-defined framework provided by the Green Path which encompasses all the practices required to get the organisation to the first level of Green. Any associated costs are listed with respective “pay-back” periods. The Certified Green Consultant will assist the organisation by way of acting as their Green Officer and guiding the implementation of the various practices.
Once complete, the organisation will request a certification audit in order to verify the implementation of the practices agreed to, and once verified, the organisation becomes Green Business Certified.
Under license from the EcoEducation Centre, Green Path Ic. provides training for Certified Green Consultants as well as Certified Sustainability Officers for Corporates.
The Certified Green Consultant is a sure-fire option for starting your own green consultancy, without the costs associated with a franchise or JV.
You will receive cutting edge training, invaluable insight on conducting the Certification assessments & Certification audits and you become a member of the Green Consultants International Network ensuring that you are always up-to-date on new green developments.
You are free to conduct any other business you wish e.g. environmental audits, waste audits, carbon footprints, home audits, green awareness training etc. whilst you are associated with Green Path Inc.
Make Green Path Inc. your New Year’s resolution and you will find that this presents you fantastic opportunity for 2011.
